The first day of our trip and we hit the road bright and early.  We were blessed with overcast weather — perfect for travelling!

It is a 6 hour drive and on previous occasions we just wanted to get to our destination — a kind of “Hit the road Jack” mood… This time however we were in no hurry.  We found ourselves looking at the landscape with “new” eyes… every tree a picture and behind every hill a new surprise! It is amazing how a change in perspective opens your eyes, to once again experience nature in all its glory.

The road is a particularly busy one, frequented by large trucks transporting goods inland from the coast. Stopping on this busy road is near impossible and we had to take photo’s as we went along. Everywhere we looked was a photo opportunity. Because I did the driving, the boys handled the camera and  between them I constantly heard shouts of “look at that” and “this side, quick”! Just for fun we decided to only take pictures that is on the left side of the road and photograph the right side when we return… which, funny enough, will be on our left side again.  Unfortunately the cloud cover made it impossible to see the Drakensberg Mountains and we will definitely take pictures on the return trip.

Enjoy with us the first leg of our journey — the beauty of the Midlands and the lush greenery of Kwa-Zulu Natal.
