“My mom taught me everything I know”, Ina said last week when we got together.  My first reaction was to disagree.  The more I thought about it, the more I realised the absolute truth of her statement.  A mom teaches you what no university degree, experience or any other type of education can; a mom teaches everything of value and above all unconditional love.

A few short words, but quite something to be saying.  In addition I will say that being a mother has taught me the rest.  Motherhood is quite possibly the most fulfilling, yet humbling experience in the world.  Nothing on this planet prepares you for it and nothing shapes you in quite the same way. I now think that it probably takes being a mom in order for us to truly appreciate our moms.

This has in many ways been a landmark year for me; one in which I have learned so much (again) from both my own mother, and my mother-in-law.  With this post I want to honor both of these remarkable women, and wish them the happiest Mothersday.

You have taught me everything I know and so much more…
